About CMPS
The Center for Marine Policy Studies
National Sun Yat-sen University
Origin
In recognizing the tenet of “our Nation’s survival and development relies upon the oceans, and our Nation’s security threats come from the same,” we shall stand up and strive for ocean-oriented nation-building, and to evoke the countrymen and the government alike of their awareness on sea power, Dr. Nien-Tsu A. HU and a group of like-minded scholars and experts would like to devote their efforts to national marine policy development with an academic approach. The Center for Marine Policy Studies (CMPS) was thus established in May 2000 in accordance with the relevant by-laws of the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU).
Including the history of its forerunner, the Office for Marine Policy Studies (OMPS) of the Sun Yat-sen Center for Policy Studies (SCPS) at the NSYSU, this Center has been the first and the most long-lasting academic research think tank of its kind in the field of marine policy in any national universities in Taiwan. With its long-term involvement in the pursuit of the academic and policy development of marine policy in Taiwan, CMPS has received wide recognition and enjoyed a high professional and academic reputation at home and aboard.
